PHILIP ERICK JOHNSON

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, February 26, 2010 at Chisholm Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Erickson officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8:00 PM on Thursday at the Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel, and continue for one hour prior to the Funeral Service at the Church on Friday. Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.

Philip Erick Johnson, age 57, of Chisholm, died Sunday, February 21, 2010 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 26, 1952 in Duluth, MN to Cecil R. and Charlotte L. (Fagerstrom) Johnson. He was a 1970 graduate of Chisholm High School and a lifelong Chisholm resident.

Philip was united in marriage in September of 1978 to Janice D. Erickson, not only his wife, but best friend. He was a member of Chisholm Baptist Church, and loved the Lord. He worked for Hibbing Taconite in the instrumentation department for 30 years and was chairman of the E.A.P committee. Phil was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed going to “The Farm” in Cook and spending time with his wife, family and friends.

Survivors include his wife – Jan; mother – Charlotte of Chisholm; sister – Sarah Johnson of St. Louis, MO; stepchildren – Joseph Sprengel of Arroya Grande, CA; Julie (Terry) Hamlin of Aurora, MN; 2 grandchildren – Danny Hamlin and Tabitha Hamlin; many brothers-n-law, and sisters-n-law, nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father – Cecil.
