ROGER JOHN CASEY SR.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Chisholm Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Erickson and Pastor Ron Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Inurnment will be in Chisholm Cemetery this summer.

Roger John Casey Sr., age 85, of Chisholm, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Heritage Manor Health Care Center in Chisholm. He was born December 21, 1927 in Chisholm to Roy E. and Verna V. (Lade) Casey. He was a lifelong Chisholm and Side Lake resident. Roger was a WWII Veteran having served in the US Navy. He was a member of the Press-Lloyd American Legion Post #247 in Chisholm.

Roger was united in marriage on December 27, 1948 to Florence M. “Honey” Kern. He attended Hibbing Junior College and graduated from NDSU College of Pharmacy in 1956. He received his North Dakota license in 1956 and his Minnesota license in 1958. He returned to Chisholm to work for his father and run the family business. Casey Drug was started in 1903 by Edmund Casey and has continued through five generations; Roy, Roger, Tim and now Alida. He received the Jr. Chamber “Spoke” award; served on the Chisholm School Board for 5 years; served on the Chisholm Recreation Board and was instrumental in integrating the city and school recreation programs; past member of Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, Chisholm Hospital Board Director, Drum and Bugle Corps and Hibbing Jr. College Board Director. He was a member of Chisholm Baptist Church. His favorite past-time was planting and nurturing trees at his Sandy Ridge Tree Farm in Side Lake. He enjoyed playing with his children and grandchildren and watching them participate in sports, arts, academic and outdoor activities.

Survivors include his children- Kendra Casey of Chisholm, Roger Jr. (Jacqueline) of Scandia, MN, Joseph (Virginia) of Merrifield, MN, Tim (Patricia) of Side Lake, MN, Jill (James) Varichak of Side Lake, MN, Genie (Keith) Turner of Esko, MN, Roy II (Dea) of Oxbow, ND; grandchildren – Jennifer, Roger III, Jacob, Patrick (Sharmin), Rebecca (Chris), Christopher (Emily), Austin, Kyle (Sara), John, Lee (Kat), Emily (Josh), Hannah (Paul), Alida (Kyle), Bess, Sigrid, Aden, Julie (Ryan), Jaime, Joseph (Jennifer), Claudia, Jaxson, Eve, Mikaela, and Ty; great-grandchildren – Ashley, Josiah, Kyle, Chloe, Caleb, Hunter, Cole, Devon, Seth, Moses, Rosa Poppi, Zetta, Dedrick, Holden and Estella; twin sister – Gene Cusack of Venice, FL; sister-in-law – Connie Casey of Brooklyn Center, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife – Florence M. “Honey” on 10/12/11; brothers – Hugh and Robert. He was a wonderful and caring individual who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
