Elsie Helen Forsberg, 97, of Chisholm, died Monday, October 2, 2017, at Heritage Manor Health Care Center in Chisholm. She was born October 15, 1919, in Little Swan, MN, to John O. and Emma K. (Sjogren) Hill.

After graduating from Chisholm High School, Elsie worked as a sales clerk for several businesses, including Scott's Company in Chicago for a year. Returning to the range, she met her future husband Adolph working at Scott's dime store in Hibbing. WWII interrupted their courtship, as he enlisted in the U.S. Army. To help support the war effort, Elsie worked on ships being built in the Walter Butler shipyard in Superior, WI. After the war ended, Elsie and Adolph married in Duluth, MN on March 26, 1946. In 1958 they built their home on McCormack Lake and raised two children. In 1960 she went back to work at Woolworth's in Hibbing, retiring eleven years later. In 2009 she moved to Grand Rapids for a short time, then to Greenview Residence in Hibbing. Elsie loved living on the lake, going fishing, camping, and being with family and friends. She loved her flowers and garden, playing cards and games, and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family above all else.

Elsie is survived by her children: Jacqueline Phipps of Grand Rapids and Jerry (Susan) Forsberg of Chisholm; grandchildren: Jennifer (Edward); Holly (fiancé Mohamad) and her son Mason; Trista, Jay, and their sons, Max and Joshua; Eric; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adolph; son-in-law, Terrance Phipps; and brother, John Hill.
