Obituary for John Francis Stampohar Jr.

Celebration of life will be lead by Father Fred Method at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chisholm, MN on Tuesday January 9th, 2018. Visitation will be held at 12 PM followed by a Memorial Mass at 1 PM.

John Francis Stampohar Jr., 60, of Chisholm, MN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4th, 2018, at St Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.

John was born, March 2nd, 1957, in Virginia, MN to John and Barbra (Biondi) Stampohar. John was a longtime Chisholm resident and a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chisholm.

John was an elite athlete in hockey, football and baseball. He was an All-American linebacker in high school for football. He had Division I offers from numerous hockey programs as well as a full ride offer to Notre dame for football. Later John accepted a full ride scholarship to Colorado College for hockey. He then continued his hockey career, playing semi-professional hockey for the Flin Flon Bombers hockey club in Flin Flon, Manitoba.

He spent many summers at the cabin on Blackduck Lake and was an exceptional fisherman, as well as an avid waterfowl hunter.

John was most passionate about family and hockey. He never missed a hockey, football, baseball, volleyball or softball game. John was most of all, a proud father of three children, John Michael Stampohar of Fairbanks, AK, Jacob Stampohar of Chisholm, MN and Jenna Stampohar of Meadowlands, MN. He is also survived by his brother Jeff (Diana) Stampohar of Garner, IA, niece Maria Stampohar of Milwaukee, WI and nephew John Ryan Stampohar of Fairbanks, AK; Uncles Joseph (Marilyn) Biondi of Warroad, MN, Michael Biondi of Chisholm, MN and Jeffrey (Carol) Biondi of Orr, MN; as well as numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father John F. on May 31st, 1959 and mother Barbara J. on July 20th, 2011.
