Obituary for Olha Kirnyczuk

Olha Kirnyczuk, 93, died Monday, July 17, 2017, at Fairview Range Medical Center in Hibbing, Minn. She was born January 24, 1924, in Stryj, Ukraine, to John and Katharine (Schwed) Hreszczuk. Olha left home at a young age to work in Poland and Germany as a housekeeper and cook. She met her husband, Peter Kirnyczuk, in Germany. They were united in marriage in 1949, and moved to the United States in 1950.

Olha was a longtime Chisholm resident, working as a seamstress for over 30 years at the Chisholm garment factory. During her 30-plus years there, she became a supervisor, retiring in the ‘90s. However, Olha was not ready to retire, so she worked part time until moving to live with her daughter, Anna, in 2004. She was a former member of St. Peter and Paul Ukranian Catholic Church and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chisholm. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, gardening, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family. Olha was well known for her amazing cooking and baking skills, especially her sarmas and pierogies. She enjoyed her trips to the casino, also.

Olha is survived by her children, Anna (Lloyd) Antilla, Katherine Brown, and Anton (Robin) Kirnyczuk; three grandchildren, Melissa (Kevin Kosmerl) Brown, and Nicholas and Serena Kirnyczuk. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter; son, Michael; and her siblings.
