A private memorial service celebrating the life of Roger A. Bjork will be held at Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel in Chisholm with Rev. Steve Breitbarth officiating.
Roger A. Bjork, 80, of Chisholm, formerly of Silver Bay, MN, died Sunday, January 8, 2017, at Heritage Manor Health Care Center in Chisholm surrounded by all his family. He was born October 4, 1936, in Eagle Lake Township in Otter Tail County to Gladys Thorpe and Andy Bjork. He graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1955.
On June 21, 1958, Roger married Brenda Snook of Beaver Bay, MN. They made their home in Silver Bay until his retirement in 2000, after which they made their home in Mission, TX.
Roger worked for Reserve Mining Co. for 30 years until the plant shut down in 1986, LTV Steel on the Iron Range for two years, and Northshore Mining until his retirement in January 2000.
Roger enjoyed snowmobiling, Gold Winging, camping, and traveling with friends. He also was a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard from 1958 through 1964.
Roger is survived by his wife, Brenda, of 58-1/2 years; his daughter, Tami Bjork (Tony Jensen) of Chisholm; son, Todd (Kim) Bjork; granddaughters, Kasey (Chad) Paulus, Sarah Jo Stecker, Jaime Stecker, Mandi, Missy, and Jossy; brother, Larry Bjork of Beaver Bay, MN; sister, Donna (Bob) Grover of Ashby, MN; brother-in-law, Randy (Rebecca) Snook of Silver Bay; two great-granddaughters, Carmen and Lauren; and his dog, Peanut. He was preceded in death by his parents; step father Fredolf Swenson; and half-brother, Steven Swenson.
Memorials are preferred to the United Protestant Church, Silver Bay. Burial will be at Sawtooth Mt. Cemetery, Beaver Bay, MN, on May 20, 2017, at 12:00 PM followed by a luncheon at Beaver Bay Community Center at 12:30 PM.
