Obituary for Walter Zerebko

Wolodimir (Walter) Zerebko passed away at Grand Village Nursing Home on February 16, 2018. He was born on October 10, 1930, in Ukraine. The Zerebko family, who were displaced persons living in Germany after WWII, immigrated to the United States in 1949.

Walter served in the US Army from 1950-1953, saw action and was wounded in the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge from the army he was employed as a MSgt at the National Guard Armory in Chisholm until his retirement. Walter and Millie were married from June 1953 until Millie’s death in 2011. Almost 7 years to the day surely she came down to let him know it was time to come home. He enjoyed being a soldier, spending time at his cabin with the family and army buddies, fishing and hunting, cooking and canning, fixing cars, teaching his worldly knowledge to his granddaughter and great-granddaughter and reading.

Walter is lovingly remembered and survived by his son, Walter Jr. (Kif) of Bovey, Minnesota; granddaughter, Mandy; and great-granddaughter, London of Lino Lakes, grandson, Justin Farr of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; two sisters, Val (Rom) Amistadi of Chisholm, Minnesota, and Lydia (Pat) Walsh of Oakton, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Peter and Elizabeth Zerebko; his wife, Mildred (Simat) Zerebko; and his sister, Zena Kintner.
